European Trip - Option 1

The actual route is difficult to plan, if I want to take in both Copenhagen and Florence, as they are two extremes in terms of the continent. And everyone I speak to suggests somewhere different. The problem with doing such a large area is that you will only pay lip service to each destination. But what I could do, for example, is:

London - Brussels - Amsterdam - Hamburg - Copenhagen - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Munich - Bern - Turin - Florence

That's 11 destinations, although I might want to spend a couple of days in the Swiss / Italian border regions as there are some nice tourist railways there.

Sleeper trains make a lot of sense and are economical compared to a day train and a hotel, plus you have the day free to explore. The flip side is that the train is an excellent way to see the sights.

So I think we will call this Option 1 for now..

More on European Rail Trip

Just been doing a bit of research and talking to some people about the way forward. Whether I would start in Florence as planned, or get the Eurostar to Paris and then onward to Italy. In terms of tickets, it seems to be about £400 for the ticket, which lasts a month. Then you have to decide how much to spend on accommodation. I'm sure you will meet lots of interesting people doing it the cheap way, but I do like my creature comforts! And then there's living out of a rucksack for 2/3 weeks, never done that either!

Still, I am still keen and everyone I speak to says that they would like to do it too!

Europe Rail Trip

I'm planning to do a rail trip across Europe sometime this year, starting at Florence and ending in Copenhagen. Was thinking of doing Milan, Geneva, Salzburg, Munich, Prague, Berlin, Hamburg then a couple of days in Copers. Anyone got any suggestions?
